To send a fax to England from the U.S. with a machine, enter the number as follows:

011-44-[fax number in England]

( 44 ) is the country code for England, and 011 is the international access prefix from the U.S. Be sure to prefix everything with a “9” if you normally need to do so to access a line outside of your company’s internal phone switch.

It may be necessary to add pauses in your dialing sequence after the “011” to allow the phone network time to connect you to an exchange. This differs by model of fax machine, but may be a comma or “#” sign inserted in between the numbers.

If you receive a bad line, you may have to lower the baud rate to 9600 or less on your machine to ensure a noise-free transmission.

Faxing England can be expensive! If you do so often, it would be best to take advantage of the free trials at one of the internet fax services. Faxing via email is way easier!
